This is insane!

I have a co-worker who used to live in Japan for about a year and recently he told me about this reality show where a guy (named Nasubi) was stripped naked, locked inside a small apartment alone with no food, household goods, and entertainment; and was told that they were going to keep him there for over a year until he had won One Million Yen! And he could only get the food and other necessities by participating in contests.

That’s insane! Here’s the article if you want to read more about it:
http://www.quirkyjapan.or.tv/nasubi.html

Some things that Nasubi won during his year and three months of “Living off contests”: 2 vacuums, rice (4 times, 35 kg), shoes, a watermelon, a cutlery set, ice cream, chocolates, natto (twice), bicycle, television (no antennae in the apartment), a globe, stuffed animals, dental care products, videos, pickled egg plant, a poster of Hirose Ryoko, free tickets to the Spice Girls movie, a coupon for a free English lesson (twice), headphones, a CD Rom, videos, a huge box of potato chips, duck meat, a barbecue, several unidentifiable varieties of Japanese snacks, a belt, some sexy women’s underwear (which he tried to wear but couldn’t put on), Matsutake mushrooms, steak, a tent, an attache case, a set of tires, a photo book, and golf balls.

Some things that Nasubi never won during his year and three months of “Living off contests”: clothes, plates, soap, books, a bed or futon, sheets and blankets, pots or pans.

Nihonese?

A co-worker of mine sent this to me yesterday. I wasn’t sure if this was real or someone just wanted to play a prank on him. It’s funny as hell, and couldn’t even stop laughing when I saw it. One thing that came to mind after reading it.. WTF is Nihonese?

You’ve Got to be Kidding Me!

Michael Jordan look-alike sues NBA super star

A Portland, Ore., man is suing Michael Jordan and Nike founder Phil Knight for a combined $832 million. Allen Heckard filed suit, contending he has been mistaken for Jordan nearly every day for 15 years and he’s tired of it. “I’m constantly being accused of looking like Michael, and it makes it very uncomfortable for me,” Heckard said. Heckard is suing Jordan for defamation and permanent injury and emotional pain and suffering. He’s suing Knight for defamation and permanent injury for promoting Jordan. At 6 feet tall, Heckard is 6 inches shorter than Jordan. But he does bear a resemblance with a shaved head, an earring in his left ear and conditioning from, yes, playing basketball. How he decided to sue for $416 million each? “Well, you figure with my age and you multiply that times seven and, ah, then I turn around and, ah, I figure that’s what it all boils down to.”

Heh…Nice dress

So this past weekend my friend threw a party. It was ‘the Ethnic Fiesta.’

Basically, it’s a party where you wear the traditional clothes (of any countries). It doesn’t really matter where you’re from. You could’ve been American and wearing Japanese kimonos, African wearing Scottish Kilt, or Mexican wearing sparkling tutu dress (OK I think the last one doesn’t really fall under traditional clothes category).

So anyways, when I got there, I was really struck by how far some people were willing to dress themselves up for the party.

Especially with this guy..
